In an effort to address some of the challenges in the country, the new European Union head of delegation said continental body has promised to create more jobs to bridge the unemployment gap in Liberia.

Making the disclosure Friday October 6, 2017 during the presentation of her letter of credence in the cabinet room at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Helene Cave noted that the European Union has concluded an external investment plan to benefit countries on the African continent of which Liberia is of no exception.

“The new investment plan will foster private sector investment with the purpose of job creation in Liberia,” she indicated. The European Union head of delegation also observed that challenges facing youth are very crucial and it is not only unique to Liberia, but it is today of global concern for which job creation is importantly desirable to address.

“The European Union will want to see the people of Liberia follow the vision of the Agenda for Transformation,” she cautioned. Cave used the occasion to encourage the government and people of Liberia, Africa and the Europe to work together to have one voice in the areas of peace and security as well as climate change, commenting on the elections, the head of the delegation maintained the European Union is aware of the fall of in the prices of commodities and the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease.

“The EU appreciates a lot the political dialogue among stakeholders; we will continue to work with the new government,” the diplomat added.

The Ambassador said while it is true that the European Union is following the achievements of the Liberian government, it is of greater advantage to the Liberian people to observe a peaceful transition to create an enabling environment for all.

She commended President Sirleaf for the mediation role she played in restoring democracy to The Gambia. “Your mediation in The Gambia for the new President to take his seat is indeed remarkable,” she indicated.

Commending the government and the people of Liberia, Ambassador Caveadded that in spite of tight budgetary constraints the government of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been able to address the situation on the country. 

Speaking earlier, President Sirleaf congratulated the European Union for standing with the people of Liberia especially during the twin shocks as a result of the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease and a sharp decline in the price of commodities.

“The European Union has been there with support budgetary support in the areas of agriculture, roads, meanwhile, the special representative of the African Union, Ambassador Ibrahim Mbaba Kamara said a team of more than 60 international observers representing the African Union and the Economic community of West African States is in the country to monitor all developments concerning the elections.

Commenting on the achievements of the current government, African Union diplomat lauded President Sirleaf for such a fascinating pace of development activities ongoing in the country.

In response, President Sirleaf reaffirmed the commitment of the people of Liberia to the transition process from one democratically election government to another.
