Liberians in the Diaspora mainly in Europe are expected to gather in the Swedish city of Malmo next weekend to celebrate this year’s independence celebration and at the same time hold the annual convention of the European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA).

Activities commemorating Liberia’s 170th Independence Day Celebrations got underway yesterday at the Monrovia City Hall with the Golden Image Award to be followed today with an Investiture at the Foreign Ministry.
The festivities, hosted by the Liberian Swedish Association (LSA) headed by Francis Mensah, begin with a four-nation invitational football competition Friday involving Liberia, Cameroon, Nigeria and Gambia at the Heleneholm IP pitch at 16:00.
Liberia is expected to put up a good show in this competition of largely ordinary citizens from those four African countries living in Sweden and other European countries.
Friday evening, beginning at 19:30, will be time for the annual convention of the European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA) where, among others, a discussion will be held on the issue of dual nationality for Liberians.
EFLA, the umbrella organization of all Liberian associations on the continent, will also conduct elections for its new set of officials. The day closes with a mingling and welcoming ceremony.
On the second day, Saturday, there will be an official indoor program at 20:00 which will be followed by a grand ball. It all comes to an end on Sunday with a barbecue, notes a release issued by the LSA.
