-Miatta Fahnbulleh Recommends Korkoya’s Dismissal
The head of a group under the banner Concerned Citizens to Protect the Constitution said the National Election Commission holds the key to political stability in the country.

Miatta Fahnbulleh, who is also UNICEF Maternal Mortality Ambassador, said it is a good thing to protect the constitution by having a Liberian with proven integrity to chair the electoral body during such a very crucial time because the commission could prove to be the doorway for conflict, doom or national peace, stability and progress.

“In the wake of such glaring and flagrant violation of our law and constitution by Korkoya and in the face of displayed reluctance by our national leadership, especially the Senate, to stop such a national disgrace and calamity from befalling our nation, it becomes a sacred duty as patriotic sons and daughters of Liberia to stand up in defense of our constitution,” the advocacy group National Election Commission holds the key to political stability in the country.

“In the wake of such glaring and flagrant violation of our law and constitution by Korkoya and in the face of displayed reluctance by our national leadership, especially the Senate, to stop such a national disgrace and calamity from befalling our nation, it becomes a sacred duty as patriotic sons and daughters of Liberia to stand up in defense of our constitution,” the advocacy group said.

Ambassador Fahnbulleh called on ECOWAS, EU, AU, and the U.S. government to prevail on the Government of Liberia to consider with exigency the immediate resolution of this matter which has the potential to adversely affect the ongoing electoral process and undermine national peace and stability.

She also called on President Sirleaf, who took oath with a commitment to protect and defend the constitution of Liberia, is now being challenged by the alleged illegal usurpation of the post of chairman of NEC by a U.S. national, Mr. Korkoya to relieve him forthwith for cause inimical to the interests, peace and stability of Liberia.

According to her, Liberian people stand solidly against any attempts at violation of the constitution and foreign interference in the national electoral politics and processes.

She maintained that the group is against the continuing and blatant violation of the constitution by Korkoya, and also to tell the world that the Liberian people stand solidly against any attempts at violation of the constitution and foreign interference in national electoral politics and processes.

“From every available evidence in our possession and based on rigorous assessment of such available evidence, we have concluded that Mr. Jerome Korkoya is indeed a citizen of the United States of America having being naturalized and sworn in as a citizen on December 21, 2007 in the city of Willingboro, New Jersey; he is therefore legally incompetent to head such an allimportant national integrity institution,” she lamented.

Fahnbulleh cited that the group is of the strong conviction that chairman Korkoya does indeed hold United States` citizenship that constitutes a renunciation as his Liberian citizenship as well to lie under oath during confirmation hearings before the Liberian senate, and by so doing he committed an act of perjury which is a criminal offence under the law.

“What more evidence does the Government of Liberia wants to see in order to be convinced that chairman Korkoya is not a Liberian, that for the last ten years ago in 2007 he renounced his Liberian citizenship and when is it going to call a halt to this unfolding tragic comedy,” the UNICEF Ambassador wondered.
