The Liberian leader used the occasion to appreciate officials of her government that have worked with their Chinese counterparts to ensure coordination in working together for the common good of the Liberian people.

“I know many of you sitting here today will say whoa. We have been on this for a long time. We`ve been waiting for this ministerial complex after long negotiations with our Chinese partners at all levels to make sure that today we see what is done before our eyes,” President Sirleaf said.

She lauded the former ambassador and his team that started the project who is now an executive of the Africa Bureau with Ministry of Foreign of China, all of them have worked so hard.

“Our own ministers have been trying hard working on this. It took us some time. According to the Liberian leader, final documentation has been concluded between both governments to ensure successful completion of the facility.

“Finally, we got all the documents signed and always the ambassador keeps telling me that this project will do. Our president made a commitment and we will get it done,” she added.

In a remark earlier, China Ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue described the project as a landmark projects which according to him mark another milestone between the two countries.

Amb. Yue said the process of putting the projects in place is a process of mutual understanding between the countries, thus, the outcome has furthered strengthened the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“These landmark projects are another milestone of China-Liberia relations. The process of putting the projects in place is a mutual understanding between our peoples and cooperation,” Ambassador Yue noted.

He asserted that the two projects, the Ministerial complex and the Capitol Building two annexes would improve the working conditions of the Liberian and the legislature so as to better serve the Liberian people.

He disclosed that the total construction area of the ministerial complex is about 24,000 square meters and is designed to accommodate at least 1,300 people while the total construction area of the two Capitol Building annexes is about 7,300 square meters and it would accommodate at least 400 people.

“After 30 months, people will see the brand new and well functioned ministerial complex and Capitol Building. These projects are solid evidence for the strong commitment of China to stand with Liberia, to develop with Liberia and to share with Liberia,” he added.

He narrated that China is trying its best make the friendship and partnership between China and Liberia and as well as Africa meaningful, tangible and to let the people feel it by heart.

At the same time, deputy Minister for Technical Services, Claude Langley revealed that these projects started as far back as September 27, 2011 between the government of Liberia and the people Republic of China.

Deputy Minister Langley said the both countries have deepened their collaborative agenda through infrastructure and capacity building, adding that the total cost of the ministerial complex projects is about US$60 million.
