-Presidential Aspirant Carlton Boah Admonish Students, Others

Presidential Hopeful Carlton Boah has admonished students and every Liberian to be responsible citizens, if Liberia must develop responsibly. Mr. Boah, former Publisher of the In Profile Daily Newspaper reminded students and parents alike, that Liberians do not take their responsibilities as serious as they should, either because they don’t know what to do or simply because they choose not to be responsible citizens.

He spoke as keynote speaker at the first semester closing and inauguration ceremony of students of the Bendu I Sherriff Arabic and English High School in Paynesville, in order for one to be classified as a responsible citizen, he said there was a need for every Liberian to be loyal to the state, obey the laws of the state, pay taxes, move beyond the self-interest, and exercise their franchise honestly by not selling their votes for money, bags of rice, fake scholarships or promises of things that usually do not come.

Boah pointed out that the misuse of one’s franchise by casting their votes wrongly, usually result in bad governance or bad leadership, something he indicated has been Liberia’s problem for 167 years.

The 2017 Presidential Hopeful said “it is the duty of every citizen to lend a hand of co-operation to public officials in the discharge of their duties.” “Every citizen should try to remove evils and crimes from society by rendering help to the officials concerned with eradicating crimes from the society.”

“Every able-bodied citizen should work and try to add something to the social fund. Lazy people or people who choose to do nothing are parasites on the society; with work comes wealth, prosperity and self-pride.”

The former In Profile Daily Publisher and Presidential contender also admonished Liberians to be tolerant towards others, regardless of religious beliefs, status, education, etc.

According to him, to be a responsible citizen, one should help their communities and those who live in them. They should also volunteer their time and other resources as individuals to personal work or to organizations.

“And so, as you take on leadership today, you take on responsibilities vested in you by those who voted you into power, serve them well,” Boah warned.
