A child who received huge national attention after it was revealed he was given caustic soda by the mother has reportedly succumbed to death in Grand Kru County.

It had been alleged that the seven-month-old child, Jerome Tuwily, was given caustic water by his mother, Susanna Weah, the day he was born with Cleft Palate, a health condition.

According to Myking Suah, a local journalist in the county, the incident occurred last year at the Buah Health center.

Ms Weah has denied giving her son caustic water, but narrated that she gave him pure water to drink.

An eyewitness on the scene discovered sore around the child’s mouth and his tongue was deeply black when parents including the mother rushed him to the Buah Health Center.

Buah district health officer Botoe Barkolleh said the County Health Team accommodated the child and his mother for over four months to enable her regain love for her child.

It is alleged that the child was neglected by community members on grounds that he was a witch.

According to the District health officer, the County health team made tremendous efforts to link the child with international organizations namely Partners in Health and Samaritan Purse among other for help.

The district health official also said the child was taken to Monrovia by the county health team sometime last year for surgery. It was advised that he child should reach one year before surgical work be performed on a child born with Cleft Palate.

The child was immediately referred to the Rally Time Hospital in Grandcess where he succumbed to death, according to reliable sources.
