Five years into its work in Liberia trying to investigate series of complicated health issues associated with Ebola Virus Disease that struck with devastating effects in 2014, Partnership for Research on Ebola Virus in Liberia (PREVAIL) has shed light on enormous benefits being accrued from the process.

Beginning with a vaccine study and development of Z-mapp all aimed at developing an anti-Ebola therapy for future outbreaks, PREVAIL is presently into other studies that look into array of health issues occasioned by the Virus.
At a national stakeholders meeting last week at the Monrovia City Hall organized by the Social Mobilization Team of PREVAIL , Principal Investigator of PREVAIL 4, Dr. Mosoka Fallah detailed the work of PREVAIL in Liberia as it relates to progress and benefits from the ongoing research work.
Drilling the audience thru achievements of different studies or research works conducted by PREVAIL, Dr. Fallah said Liberia is positioned as a country looked up to address future Ebola situations “because of the work PREVAIL is doing.”
He made reference to a Liberia researched Vaccine which is tested to be effective and if approved could be used in future Ebola outbreaks. For other benefits, Dr. Fallah told the audience that PREVAIL is not only interested in research but in training as well.
“Don’t see PREVAIL only as a research entity; one of things we are doing is we have invested and continue to invest in training. Few Months ago, one of our workers at PREVAIL graduated from Harvard University with a Master’s Degree in Bio-ethnics; all the fees PREVAIL paid for it,” the PREVAIL 4 PI disclosed.
He also told the audience that with the financial support of PREVAIL, a former Grand Bassa County health official has agreed to go Harvard University to do community-health.
“Not only that, but there is funding available to help the ministry of health and other institutions to provide scholarships,” he indicated. Earlier, PREVAIL’s Advocacy lead, Joseph Boye Cooper said there was need for Liberia to contribute to global drugs development by lending their support to the research works PREVAIL is undertaking because “drugs being used in Liberia were tested and developed in other countries.”
According to Him, PREVAIL is conducting a collaborative study with Sierra Leone and Guinea, targeting about four thousand five hundred participants. “If we reach the targeted number, automatically, the study will close,” he added.
On behalf of the Liberia Crusaders for Peace which spearheaded the organization of the Stakeholders Forum, Administrative Yah Bryant heaped praises on the stakeholders for the continuous of willingness to work with PREVAIL.
The forum aimed to elicit Stakeholders’ support to PREVAIL’s efforts. “I want to welcome all stakeholders here today as we continue to find effective vaccine; I am also very grateful to the PREVIAL Social Communication Committee for its enormous support and continuous guidance; I am confident that this event will provide important opportunity for our stakeholders to understand the substance of the work we, LCP and PREVAL families are doing and how they can be supportive within their respective communities,” Ms Bryant said.
In different responses, Stakeholders thanked PREVAIL for the work it is doing for Liberia and urged it continue, while also pledging to take the good news to their respective communities.
Drinking from the fountain of knowledge from Dr. Fallah, we can use the experience gained here today and take the message to our communities, one of the stakeholders said.
