-Protempore Jallah Craves Increased Productivity
Senate Protempore Armah Zolu Jallah has instructed the Senate committee on ways, means, finance and budget to synchronize the salaries of all directors and assistant directors at the upper House of the national legislature.

The committee chaired by Grand Cape Mount Senator Edward Dagoseh is concurrently working out final modalities on the salary structure, which is expected to take effect shortly, a release from the Director of Media Services, office of the Senate Protempore T. Michael Johnny, has issued.
According to a release issued over the weekend in Monrovia, the Senate Protempore’s directive to the ways, means, finance and budget committee is in fulfillment with assurances of improved working environment that will commensurate with their respective functions at the Liberian Senate.
The release said the wages synchronization, which is unprecedented, is also intended to improve the welfare of employees and raise their living standard.
“I have instructed the chairman on ways, means, finance and budget of the Liberian Senate to synchronize the salary of all directors and assistant directors. This is an important step that will motivate employees”, Protempore Jallah directed.
Following his election in 2015, Senate Protempore Armah Zolu Jallah gave $100,000.00 out of his budget to augment the salaries of employees of the Liberian Senate.
The release indicated that the synchronization directive preceded discussion with a recent delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) headed by its director of mission, Anthony Chan, aimed at structuring the central administration and financial management system of the Liberian Senate. The meeting, which was held at the office of Protempore Jallah, also included Senators Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence and Morris Saytumah of Grand Bassa and Bomi counties respectively, all of whom jointly requested USAID support in the financial management system.
The fruitful discussion with the USAID delegation is expected to greatly improve the Senate financial system that will include digital tracking and networking in the preparation and execution of the budget and will also enhance the work of the Legislative Budget Office (LBO).
“The meeting was fruitful especially with the presence of the head of USAID and basically it is noteworthy that the leadership of the Senate will like to see major transformation in the accounting system of the Senate,” said Protempore Jallah.
The Senate Protempore further disclosed that the USAID delegation accepted the request and also jotted down vital information that will form the basis of the financial structuring of the central administration and financial management system of the Senate.
“The initiative is important for the Senate especially because it will holistically and prudently structure our financial management system and make it more robust, accountable and effective in its core operation and we are happy with their response to help improve our system,” said Protempore Jallah.
In brief remarks, USAID mission director Chan expressed delight at the meeting with Protempore Jallah and colleagues and promised that their request will be highly considered to ensure improved financial system at the Legislature.
“The USAID-Senate financial structuring support will incorporate employees of the Legislative Budget Office whom will be trained to discreetly execute the Senate budget in a timely manner.
Following that meeting, Protempore Jallah appointed Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence to coordinate with the USAID officials in order to actualize the financial management structuring of the Senate to reflect accountability,” the release concluded.
