The Government of Liberia (GoL) through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched the inaugural edition of the National Quality Award, which is aimed at encouraging business entities to prioritize quality products that will enable them to compete on the global market

Speaking at the launch, Commerce Minister Axel Addy noted that the launch of the award is another clear indication that the government is committed to intervene in addressing the problem associated with poor quality of products on the market.

Minister Addy further explained that this national quality award will serve as a promotion tool to encourage business owners’ priority quality to boost their market value as well as added advantage to export products more easily on the international market.

“The goal of this award is to promote and review excellence in organization performance through quality awareness, and understanding the requirements of quality excellence for products. In addition, we know that quality is particular a matter of public health and consumer protection and a basis for business sustainability.” 

“The benefits of this award cannot be over emphasized; therefore, it is my ardent hope that local business owners will take advantage of this great opportunity to align with best management practice in accordance with international standards that will create the environment wherein they can compete at regional as well as international levels.”
“In this light, I’m calling on all entrepreneurs to pick up an application form the ministry in order to benefit from this unique opportunity that recognize their efforts and achievements for more quality,” the minister said.

Commenting on participation, the minister said it is opened to legal companies, local manufactures and all businesses operating within the commerce of Liberia. “Interested companies and businesses are encouraged to apply in anyone of the four categories; bronze, silver, gold and diamond,” the minister pointed out.

According to him, the winner of the diamond category will have the opportunity to participate in the ECOWAS Quality Award slated for this year. Meanwhile, the minister has revealed that the ministry has been able to put into place the proper required structure for organizing the awards in accordance with ECOWAS rules and regulations, which include the organizing committee, the technical secretarial, the jury and auditors.
