The Mayor of Ganta Ben Dokpah has said land disputes in the country remain a serious threat to the peace of security the country of Liberia, particularly in the face of the drawdown of UNMIL.
He said the country could be plunged into another round of crisis if nothing was done to address continuous land disputes in the country. Ganta is reportedly encountering tremble of tension in the wake of a survey of 3.5 acres of land in favor of the Nyahn Poryor Inter-Estate ordered by Judge Emery Paye of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court in Sanniquellie.
The survey did not go on as ordered because of protest filed by Cllr. Mohammed Sherriff on behalf of the Nimba County Muslim Council, coupled with a complaint from another group, claiming that the Council did not get fair judgment in land cases in the county.
Mayor Dokpah appealed to the Liberian government and partners to adequately address the issue of land disputes in the country before the departure of UNMIL.
