A resident of Sonewien has alleged that the land hosting the Sonewein Public School is being put up for lease, though this paper could not independently verify.

Randolph Kamokai said leasing the land is to the detriment of school going kids and called on national government to intervene. He warned that the land should not be leased or sold but should be reserved for the betterment of the community.

He did not say who is leasing the land and why but said “if the issue of education is very serious to the government, it is about time to intervene to quickly refurbish school before it gets too late.”

Kemokai, a member of the Friends of Fallah in Montserrado County Electoral Dist. # 8 spoke at to this paper, saying the community school had been demolished a year ago, of which construction works should have since begun.

“The demolished institution has served about 22 communities and its surroundings and if nothing is done, the education of our children will be jeopardized,” he said.
He noted that many children whose parents are not financially potent are now sitting home while those whose parents are strong financially are going to school.

According to him, Representative Acarous Gray has informed the community about the amount of US$68,000 allotted for the construction of the school and has also vowed to settle the land issue.

Rep. Gray could also not be reached for comments on the status of the school. However, Kemokai believes the growth of the country can only be materialized when the minds of its citizens are being capacitated.
