Liberian celebrated gospel musician Kanvee Gains Adams is among several African musical artists nominated for this year’s KORA awards, the Pan-African equivalent of the American-based Grammy Awards.

All Accordingly, Liberians in and out of Liberia are urged to therefore vote for Mrs. Adams, who is considered as the country’s multiple-award winning musical gospel icon.

A release issued Wednesday evening on behalf of the Kanvee Adams Ministries, said the voting began on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. The release pointed out that Kanvee’s ‘Heart Desire’ was chosen as she battles it out against five other popular African artists in ‘The Female Artist of The Year’ Category.

Nigeria’s Laura George, South Africa’s Rebecca Malope, and Kenya’s Gloria Muliro are in this category. The other two are Samira Adzabe and Sarah Hagos of Rwanda and Eritrea respectively.

The KORA Awards honors the best artists from Africa and its Diaspora. Kanvee’s inclusion in the KORA Awards 2016 is the first time a Liberian artist is being recognized at the level of Africa’s highest musical event, the release said.

“This is not about me, but it’s about our country Liberia. I’m aware that our country is such a very small one and that I will be going against other artists from bigger countries in terms in populations. But if we Liberians here and other parts of the world are united in this voting process, we can make our nation proud once more”, the release quotes Kanvee.

Meanwhile, Kanvee who is the lone nominee from Liberia has promised to take along with her two other Liberian artists from the Gospel and secular sectors. According to the Gospel icon who is currently in Liberia, taking the two artists with her to the awards ceremony in Windhoek, Namibia is her contribution of helping to expose her fellow Liberian artists to the outside world.

In 2014 during the height of the Ebola crisis in West Africa, KORA named the Liberian star its Goodwill Ambassador on Ebola as the virus raged in her home-country and was still prevalent in immediate neighboring countries.

Featuring 27 categories across regions and common genres, KORA announces a monetary reward associated with each trophy, with the main prize ‘Best Artist of the Continent’ receiving a grand prize of US$1 million.
