Margibi County district number one Representative Roland Ope Cooper has filed a Bill to plenary of the House of Representatives to grant status to the township of Duazon to a full city status.

The Bill which was submitted to plenary on Tuesday is justifying that Duazon is one of the oldest towns in the country that has existed since 1920 and should now be granted a city status due to the progress the country has made so far.

Representative Cooper indicated that the elders of the township have early told him in 2014 to proffer the Bill before his colleagues in order to consider the township as a city.

Making further comments concerning the Bill submitted to plenary in an interview on a local radio station in Monrovia, Rep. Cooper maintained that it is necessary, and is not due to the electioneering period that has caused him to submit this Bill but it is the appropriate time.

He said he has supported other representatives in making sure that their Bills are passed and it was now time that they too support him. Representative Cooper added that since he was elected as representative of Margibi County in 2011, this has been his first Bill ever submitted to plenary and when quizzed, he noted that the House of Representatives is not only meant for lawmaking but to also represent and have oversight.

The Margibi County lawmaker justified that he could not lie as this Bill is the first ever since his election and as such, he cannot lie as it is prudent to make the township a city as there are lots of progress made.

“We have 35,000 persons residing in the township that should bring a clear signal to the minds of the people in considering the Bill is passed; I am not afraid of anybody as this is the only place Mamba Bassa and Kpelle people reside,” he added.
