A local group, Lofa County Citizens for 2017, says it is impressed with progress being made in the rehabilitation of the Gbarnga –Voinjama Highway through the prudent and proper mobilization, engagement and participation of the people of Lofa.

The group which contributed 1000 gallons of fuel toward the work on the highway also disclosed that the Government of Liberia through the Lofa Legislative Causes contributed US$10,000 towards the initiative as well.

A press release by the Legal Advisor of the Lofa County Citizens for 2017, Atty. Prof. Lavela B. Kortimai, Sr., says the group made the observation when they presented the 1, 000 gallons of fuel towards the rehabilitation of the Gbarnga –Voinjama Highway.

The citizens and residents of Lofa, mainly the youth recently engaged the highway manually removing dirt and red mud which have made the road impassable during the raining season, thereby preventing free movement of farm goods from Lofa, the breadbasket of the country, to Urban Monrovia and other parts.

Prof. Kortimai explained that citizens and residents within the nine districts of Lofa contribute food and food items for the workers’ upkeep, while the Alpha Logging Company provided yellow machines towards the highway’s rehabilitation through intervention by the leadership of the Lofa County Citizens for 2017.

Meanwhile, the Lofa County Citizens for 2017 group is thanking all those who have made contributions towards the initiative. The group particularly mentioned the Lofa County Legislative Caucus, the Vice President – Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai and the Government of Liberia for their contributions, which the release said made significant impact on the initiative.

“We also want to commend the Alpha Logging Company for providing the machines for the work. We wish to thank the committee on the road, including the superintendent and the youth who are working on the road,” the release said.

The citizens’ group is calling on other well-meaning Liberians to contribute to the project so that the project which now covers from Gbarnga to Gorlu Town, Salayea District to extend to be able to reach to Voinjama, the release signed by Professor Kortimai concluded. The contribution can reach the group through mobile numbers 0886525463 and 0777873546.
