The Commissioner of Yellequelleh District in Bong County, Annie Reaves has alarmed over the deplorable condition of the Gbartala Fenitolee road. Madam Reaves made the assertion on Wednesday April 6, 2016 in Gbartala City in an interview with our reporter.

She said the road from Gbartala to Fenitolee is a major route that is being used by thousands of people commuting from one point to another by means of vehicles and walking by land as it connects Bong County to Grand Bassa County.

The Commissioner stated that the current condition of the road needs to be handled with urgency before it goes off hands. According to her, if the road condition remains the way it is before the rainy season; commuters and marketers will not have access to the Taylor Town and Fenitolee markets and will not also be able to get to Gbartala via vehicles.

She noted that this may also give motorcyclists the opportunity to overcharge or exploit commuters and marketers in the area when the heavy rain starts to fall. The Commissioner further said the bad road condition has been in existence since her ascendency in 2012 as commissioner of the district noting that she has made several SOS calls, but no one has come to her calls.

Madam Reaves further indicated that the Yelle River Bridge is now a death trap for the Citizens because of its condition. She averred that the bridge is at the verge of collapsing adding that whenever car or motorbike gets on the bridge, it can be quivering.

The Commissioner pointed out that she sees a big disaster ahead if the bridge is not reconditioned. She mentioned that every year she and her citizens laid planks over the River but cannot last long because of the heavy weight.

The Commissioner is calling on the local officials and the national government to intervene in order to avoid future disaster.
