–Sen. Zargo Calls For Collective Effort Against Terrorism

The ECOWAS committee of chiefs of defense staff in Monrovia, who is chairman of the committee on defense, security, intelligence and veteran affairs at the Liberian senate, Steve Zargo said the prevention of criminal activities within the country`s maritime domain, predominantly piracy is an issue that should be jointly tackled by the security forces of the entire sub-region.

“Terrorism is one of the grave concerns in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regional countries which need speedy intervention,” he said.
Speaking at program marking the 37th ordinary meeting of the ECOWAS committee of chiefs of defense staff in Monrovia, Zargo said this is not just of a security concern but it is more of an economic concern as well.
Senator Zargo further indicated that in the face of the expansion and extension of terrorist tentacles in the sub-regional, the need for collaboration, coordination and cooperation geared towards the joint operability of West African forces and other national security institutions cannot be over emphasized.
He pointed out that prevention of criminal activities within the country`s maritime domain, predominantly piracy is an issue that should be jointly tackled by the security forces of the sub-region.
The chairman on Defense and security used the occasion to call on the Regional Maritime Center for West Africa (CRESMAO) to act fast in order to save Liberia’s maritime and enhance ECOWAS countries` respective economic values.
As Liberia is at the critical juncture in its democratic sojourn, oweing to the ensuring presidential and legislative elections slated for October 2017, Senator Zargo cautioned that security should be heightened
He therefore admonished the gallant men and women in arms to continue the vigilance, coupled with their coordination and collaboration with other frontline national security institutions to ensure that Liberians have violence free elections.
Additionally, he reminded political actors to be aware of the decisive way and manner in which the sub-region responded to military the situation in The Gambia and other trouble spots in the sub-region which worth commendation.
The Lofa County Senator lauded ECOWAS for the many contributions in making the Armed Forces of Liberia, a force for good because without their input, such would not been possible.
“You are highly appreciated by Liberia in all levels.” “As you depart the soil for your respective countries, we wish you safe travels, while hoping that the level of coordination established between and amongst you will be and continuously enhanced,” he bided the community good bye.
Also making remark, the chief of defense staff of the Republic of Liberia said key instruments were adopted during the three day meeting. This he said included the revised structure of the ECOWAS stand-by force, doctrine of the ECOWAS stand-by force, and the contest of operation in The Gambia.
Major General Daniel Ziankahn assured colleagues that their inputs and everything that were discussed in due course will be implemented. He lauded the CDS of Togo, noting that during their next extra ordinary meeting, he will be more than willing to turn over to him.
Ziankahn said being the chair is not a burden but a dedication of service because he has the opportunity to work with the best brains in the ECOWAS sub-region, noting that their guidance and counsel will be important and such would be highlighted throughout his military sojourn.
