WITH THEIR POLITICAL, social and economic differences, Liberians seem unanimously resolved to carry the plight of their country on their heads, ensuring nothing happens during these electioneering period, a time a of huge uncertainty when no one knows what happens the next day due to, at times, unbridled tension as we have.

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL observers of the just-ended poll on October 10 have given kudos to the demonstration of maturity and the peaceful manner in which Liberians conducted themselves in the exercise of their franchise to elect a new president and members of the House of Representatives.

VOTING IS NOW over and what is left is the counting and announcement of official results to know who wins the October 10, 2017 election which was generally marred by serenity coupled with an impressively massive turnout across the country, with no reports of major incidence except for “slowness and delays” at some polling places.

THE LONG AWAITED day so longed by Liberians to choose between “the red sea and the promised land” has finally come. The “Red Sea” is the sufferings, the poverty, the backwardness, the underdevelopment, poor governance and corruption Liberia has endued since its founding 170 years ago.

THE STRENGHT OF any nation to overcome mounting shortcomings and nightmares, to address perilous conditions facing its citizens, to provide for their needs and create an environment conducive for the exchange of values and ideas does not rest with the dictatorial conditions erected by state actors, neither is it with the use of the national army. Rather, it is the ability and commitment of the governed and the governor to embrace and live within the confines of peace. By this, it is expected of them – both governed and governor – to identify issues that could trigger altercations and national disorder to be able to address them as urgently as possible.
