Lofa County electoral district#3 Representative Clarence Massaquoi has written the plenary of the House of Representatives to launch an investigation into the management of the ‘road maintenance fund’.

It can be recalled that nearly one year ago, the National Legislature passed a law setting aside collection of funds from the sale of petroleum products for the maintenance of existing roads and creation of new ones.
The Lofa County lawmaker said it is expected and by the very law that a road management team should by now be setup and a report submitted to the Legislature on amount collected so far and by which companies.
“This investigation will not only establish how much has been collected, but also in my view it will highlight the usage of same,” Representative Massaquoi said.
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf submitted to the National Legislature for enactment into law, “the National Road Fund Act of 2016.”
The law is facilitating an organized and sustainable system for road and bridge maintenance.
“It allows for the direct methodical planning, programming and management of activities related to maintenance of our roads and bridges,” President Sirleaf stated in her letter.
The law sets the framework for governance and oversight of the road fund, including the approval process for the Annual Road Maintenance Expenditure Program, which will be compiled from projects submitted by organizations authorized to undertake road and bridge works across the country.
“Regular systematic, routine and periodic maintenance of roads and bridges will improve mobility within the country, boost economic growth, enable better management of budgetary allotments for road and bridge maintenance, and help ensure that these assets are sustained,” the President wrote.
