The Judge of Criminal Courts ‘A’ in Monrovia,  Roosevelt Z. Willie, has called on judges, magistrates and lawyers to administer justice freely and not for personal gains or to the detriment of party litigants.

Judge Willie said judges, magistrates, and lawyers are called to render justice to party litigants, noting that service and justice are intertwined, requiring honesty, integrity, impartiality and fairness.
“As members of the justice system we must realize these virtues and exercise them in our day-to-day interactions with party litigants,” he said, adding, “They are the cornerstones of sustaining the peace we now have and we do not wish to revert to our ugly past.”
He noted: “Many of our colleagues believe that they have been called into this profession to accumulate wealth, to build houses and acquire other properties, no matter how and by what means they get them, to the point that they would baffle justice and leave others in tears.”
He indicated that it is incumbent upon judges and magistrates to bear in mind that they are called to serve and to administer justice to those who are aggrieved but do not wish to take the laws into their own hands Judge Willie made the statement in his charge at a program marking the joint formal opening of Criminal Courts ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ & ‘E’.
Meanwhile, Judge Willie has spoken of a report of the International Crisis Group (ICG) submitted to the international community that described the justice system and actors of Liberia, including the Police, Lawyers and Judges, as being corrupt, “I add my voice to this report made by ICG in 2006 and call on all members of the justice system to administer justice without fear or favor and personal gains as we are the custodians of peace,” Willie added.
